How fix the Error Code 18 on Google Play Store

The Google Play Store use is as usual as navigating throughout the internet, especially since we frequently download or update content on our mobile device, therefore, its proper functioning is a priority in order to take full advantage of everything that this App offers for our Android device.

Despite being one of the best app stores today when it comes to download applications and games, sometimes errors from the Google Play Store appear, the fact is that, the solution to these errors is usually easier to get than what you think first.

What is the error code 18 and how can you fix it

This error from the Google Play Store is not very frequent, although it could appear at any time while trying to update or download any app. In most cases, the error code 18 error appears simply because we have a problem with our external SD card.

It can also appear when we have a problem with the cache memory of our Android device, there are few cases in which this error occurs because some other error in the Google Play Store has not been fixed correctly. Here are some tips to fix this error:

  1. Delete Data and Cache Memory of the Google Play Store


  • Open the Settings menu of your mobile device.
  • Search the Applications tab and tap it.
  • Find the Application Manager and select All.
  • Select the Google Play Store App.
  • Tap on Force stop, then Clear cache and finally Clear data.
  • In order to finish we have to do the same procedure in Google Play Services and then try to figure out if the error has been fixed.

If deleting the data and the cache does not solve the problem, try the following solution:

  • Deactivate the External SD Card of your Mobile


  • Open the Settings menu of your mobile device.
  • Find the Storage tab.
  • Tap Deactivate SD card.
  • Remove the SD card from the mobile device and restart it.
  • Once restarted, go to the Google Play Store and try to update or download the app that gave you the error code 18.
  • Finally, if you have fixed the error, you can now insert the SD card back into your mobile device.
  • Try Downloading an apk file

  • Search on Google for the Apk file of the app or game you want to download.
  • Download it to your mobile device.
  • After downloading the file, go to the Settings menú on your mobile device.
  • Look for the Security tab and enable the option Source or Unknown Sources, you must do so in order to install the app.
  • Install the app using the Apk file.
  • Finally, after the install of the app has finished, deactivate the Unknown sources option (this step is completely optional).
  • Reset your phone to factory configuration

The first thing that you must do before restoring the phone to factory configuration is to create a backup copy with all the information, data and programs that are of great importance to you since selecting this option will delete all the information including contacts, messages, phone records, apps and games save data.


  • Open the Settings menu of your mobile device.
  • Scroll down until you find the Backup tab.
  • Select the Factory Data Reset option.
  • Now you just have to wait a moment and your mobile will automatically restart.
